INTERVIEW: Eric Schackne at House of Blues - Anaheim

Eric Schackne played the House of Blues in Anaheim Wednesday night during the Acropolis Record Showcase. His set started promptly at 11pm and he was well worth the wait! He was by far the best artist who played that night. I had the honor of interviewing him prior to him taking the stage so I got a little background on what the night had in store. He opened up his set with a song he sang to the tune he played on the piano. It certainly caught the audience's attention and definitely captivated me. During the rest of his set, he was accompanied by a drummer and guitarist who added a more upbeat feel to the night. Toward the end of his set he even played a little of the guitar himself. He sang a few songs off his first EP and gave us a little taste of what will be on his lastest EP, "Hammers & Strings," which is set to be released on March 27th. I loved getting a sample of his new music. The lyrics were so honest, I can't wait to listen to the entire album.

Between each song he engaged with the audience and he was quite the funny guy! At one point Schackne asked the crowd, "How are you guys feeling tonight?" The audience responded with cheers and "Woo!" to which Schackne said, "Woo? I feel woo too from time to time!" His chats with the audience showed that he wasn't only a talented musician, but he had a great personality that made him likeable as well. If you haven't heard his music, get to listening! For more information on Eric Schackne visit his website at EricRockMusic.com which also has links to his Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.

Check out our interview below with a sneak peak of part of his performance from House of Blues in Anaheim, California!

INTERVIEW: Tanna Frederick talks "Why We Have A Body"

Tanna Frederick stars and directs "Why We Have A Body" at Edgemar Center for the Arts. The play is based around 4 main characters. The first is Eleanor (Barbara Bain) who is depicted as a feminist and mother to Mary (Tanna Frederick) and Lili (Alex Sedrowski). Mary is an insane criminal, known for constantly holding up local 7-Eleven stores. Throughout the play she struggles to find and accept why her mother has left her. Ironicly, her sister Lili is a private investigator, struggling with her emotions for a married woman, Renee (Cathy Arden). Although the play was done back in 1993, Frederick puts her own spin on the play. She directed the play with her intrepretation of a "Wizard of Oz" type feel to it. She also ads a little extra comedic edge to the character of Eleanor, who frequently enters the stage wheeled in by two younger, handsome looking men who never have speaking roles. This feminist play attempts to give the audience an inside look at the world of a feminist lesbians struggling to find happiness in their lives. Take a listen to the interview I had with Tanna Frederick for more details on her role as star and director of this play.

We the Party - Movie Review

"We The Party" is a teen movie directed by Mario Van Peebles. The film is an interesting take on the life of teens growing up in today's society. Although the teens are influence by gangs, money, sex and school, there is a much deeper meaning to this movie. It reminded me of "Freedom Writers" or "Dangerous Minds" but this time, the similar plot line is told through the eyes of the students. Struggling students pressured by the effects of society are required to do a school project in which they must ask strangers what success means to them and document their responses. The underlying message that success doesn't necessarily mean driving the fancy car, owning the biggest house and havinging the tightest body will certainly get through to teens. Equally, it shows that staying in school and making responsible choices will help you succeed in the long run. This movie preaches a great message without making the audience feel lectured. The entertaining elements allow the movie to be comedic while teaching a moral. Keep in mind this is definitely a teen movie. The scenarios, acting and dialogue are defenitely geared toward a high school student. However, parents can definietly appreciate the moral which is being portrayed and therefore, although the movie is rated R, I think it's worth letting your underage kid see it.

The film features Snoop Dogg, YG, The New Boyz, Mario Van Peebles, Moises Arias, The Rej3ctz, The Pink Dollaz, Michael Jai, Orlando Bloom, Quincy Brown, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Tiny Lister, Melvin Van Peebles, Simone Battle and Mandela Van Peebles.

Check out We the Party on Facebook and check it out in theaters on April 6th!

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill to again team-up for a new film

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill who resently starred together in the movie "Moneyball" are once again teaming up to star in a new movie. Together with James Franco ("Pineapple Express,") Hill and Pitt are starring in the film based on a memoir by journalist Michael Finkel.

Deadline reported that Hill will be playing Finkle "who was a writer at The New York Times Magazine in 2002 when he learned that Christian Longo was captured in Mexico after a long stint on the FBI Ten Most Wanted List for killing his family. The strange part was that he had been living under the identity of Finkel. The very next day, the real Finkel was fired by the editors of The New York Times, right after they ran an editor’s note declaring that he had falsified parts of an investigative article. His career seemed over, until Longo (who’ll be played by Franco) declared that the real Finkel was the only journalist he would talk to. That led to a surreal relationship with the accused murderer who was trying to declare his innocence. For the real Finkel, it was an opportunity to unravel the mystery and perhaps redeem himself as a journalist."

The film will be directed by Rupert Goold.

Interview with up-coming star Alexandra Sgambati of Kevin M. Slee's "Good Knight"

We are once again catching up with our friend Kevin M. Slee, director/producer from LA, California. Together with his film production Artistic Analogies Film Co., Slee had brought us short films such as "The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky" and "Franky, Frankly" directed by Matthew Anderson and stars Mikandrew Perdaris (Franky), Bella Dayne (Chantal,) and Allan Hyde (Madison.)

This time Slee is bringing to us another film titled "Good Knight" and we are fortunate enough to get to know one of the stars of the film, Alexandra Sgambati through a short interview by AOD.
Can you tell us a little about the film "Good Knight" that you worked on with Kevin Slee?
Sure! Good Knight is a romance-gone-awry between a raucous horse tamer and a rebellious farmer’s daughter set in 1940s Northern California.
What was the best part about working on this film? What were some challenges?
Without a doubt the crew and the creative team were the best part. Such a fantastic group of people to work with! Downside? The weather. Most of my costumes were made of really thin material, and we shot on a ranch in Thousand Oaks in the winter. It was freezing.
Have you worked with Mr. Slee in the past?
I haven’t, but enjoyed working with him immensely. Kevin is an actor’s director; that kind of passion is electric.
Can you share a bit about the projects you've done in the past?
The other day I was listening to a bunch of mix CDs I made in high school, and you know what, even though I try to forget, I’m a complete theatre nerd. However in the last couple years I’ve begun transitioning to film and television, my first job being with two of my comedy heroes, Matt Lucas and David Walliams of Little Britain. Needless to say, I had a minor seizure after receiving the call that I booked the job.
How long have you been acting?
Since about the age of seven after my parents pulled me out of dance classes for being too much of a clown… and highly uncoordinated.
How did you get the part in Mr. Slee's project?
A mutual friend suggested to Kevin that I audition for “Juliette”. I attended a casting call in LA and two weeks later we were shooting.
Plans in the future? Any future project you can tell us about?
Recently I was cast as a host of Fox’s Life After Film School, and in the coming months will have the opportunity to interview the creative minds behind Fox’s slate of upcoming films and TV series!
What was the actor-director relationship that you had with Mr. Slee? Any plans to collaborate again?
We've got a feature in the works, "Love Drug," and I can't tell you how excited I am for it. Won't say much at this point, but it's really original and stylized concept kind of in the vain of "500 Days of Summer" and "Garden State."
Any specific project you'd like to work on? Genre? Director? Actors?
Should I give you the abridged version? I can’t help but love everything written by Aaron Sorkin, he’s got such a mind for language and dramatic tension.
Music is another passion, so a film where the soundtrack is heavily integrated into the story’s style would be a blast. Essentially, I’d love to be directed by Cameron Crowe. Something along the lines of Penny Lane in Almost Famous would be a dream role.
Aside from "Good Knight," what other projects are you involved in at the moment?
Theatre is something that will never leave my blood, so right now I’m performing in one of my favorite plays, The Vagina Monologues. We’ve yet to have a boring rehearsal.
Where and when can we watch "Good Knight?"
We’re tentatively looking at an April 21st release at Chapman University. Right now the post team is hard at work, and though I’ve yet to see any of the cuts, Kevin has been enthusiastically filling me in on every detail.

Here are a few shots from set:

*Big thanks to Kevin M. Slee for this interview. For more info on "Good Knight" please visit their Facebook page.

Aaron Carter Plays Crocodile Rock Cafe

You may know him from growing up on his catchy tunes, such as "I Want Candy" or you may know him as Matt from the hit off-Broadway show "The Fantasticks", but tonight you will know him as Aaron Carter, performer, entertainer, and definitely all grown up.

Carter is making the journey from New York City, where he is currently starring in The Fantasticks off-Broadway to Allentown, PA where he will be putting on a live concert at the popular Crocodile Rock Cafe. Tickets are only $20, and best yet... it's ALL ages. So even if you aren't quite old enough to stay out late on a school night you can still enjoy the festivities. Doors open at 5:30 pm with Carter hitting the stage at eight.

According to Crocodile Rock's website, special guests will include Dalia Rae, FM Waves, Fight From the Kid, and Talinday. Carter also offered a VIP experience to meet up with him after his show and get a little one on one time (who wouldn't want that?). VIP tickets are not available at the door, so let's hope you got yours!

Carter has been fighting his way to the top of the entertainment industry over this past year and making quite the mark. Even with tragedy in his path with the death of his beloved sister, Leslie Carter, 25, back at the end of January, Carter has overcome the odds and is showing the world he is not just a child star, but an overall entertainer who is willing to work hard for what he wants. We are sure his sister would be proud, just as the fans are.

We are patiently awaiting the release of an album as he has tweeted occasionally about being in the studio working on his music. Until then, check him out tonight at Crocodile Rock Cafe in Allentown, PA or swing on up to New York City and check him out in The Fantasticks.
