Chernobyl Diaries in theaters tonight.

Last night on the show, we spoke with Devin Kelley who stars in Chernobyl Diaries. Devin had a lot of really interesting things to say about the filming of the movie, how close the cast got during filming, and about acting scared when you already know what is coming in the film.  If you missed the show you can download it from iTunes or check it out here.

Turns out, the actors didn't always know what was going to happen, so many of the "Boo" moments were genuine.  Devin also said that the locations they were filming were remote and "heavy" with some of the things that actually occurred there.

That makes me want to ask you a few questions -

Do you like horror movies?  If you do, do you like the ones that are filmed in a "real" style?

Do you think that places, such a Pripyat the city represented in the movie, retain (for lack of a better term) an after effect of the things that happened there?

Are you going to see Chernobyl Diaries?

Leave us your thoughts in the comments, please.

Chernobyl Diaries Synopsis

A group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an "extreme tour" guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone.

Artists On Demand Welcomes New Staff Member

We here at Artists On Demand have welcomed in a new On Air Personality into our ranks. Take a look at Deb, from Virginia. She loves music and all things entertainment (right up our alley). We are looking forward to all of you getting to know her! Make sure to give her a shout out on twitter at @karmabalance and @artistsondemand.

Name: Deborah Helms Stone

Nicknames: Deb

Birthplace: Roanoke, Virginia

Current Location: Roanoke, Virginia

Age: 47

Interests: I tend to get obsessed with a topic, find out everything I can about it, and then move on to the next thing. There are too many interesting things to uncover, and I couldn’t stand thinking I missed out on something. However these have stuck with me: Animals- I want to be Dr. Deb Doolittle. I am a voracious reader and a constant doodler. Music- If there is no music playing in my environment, and then it’s playing in my head. I love the outdoors and I like to explore.

Top Three’s:

Favorite Bands/Artists:
1. The Pixies
2. 100 Monkeys
3. Tom Waits

Favorite Movies:
1. How to Get a Head in Advertising
2. The Princess Bride
3. Army of Darkness

Favorite TV Shows:
1. True Blood
2. Walking Dead
3. Game of Thrones

Favorite Places to Visit:
1. My imaginary world. Does that count?
2. California – I would have said northern, but I like San Diego too.
3. I love New York. What? I really do.

Favorite thing about being a part of AOD: It’s like a treasure hunt. I can’t stand to think I am missing out on anything. AOD lets me explore and discover, so nothing wonderful gets by me.

If you could be any flavor jelly belly (jelly bean), what flavor would you be and why? Strawberry Cheesecake – I’m sweet, but there is more to me under the surface. Let’s face it, I can be sort of cheesy too, not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’d like to be a cheesecake-y pinup.

AOD's Search for @JustinBieber's #1 Belieber

Weeks ago Artists On Demand set out on the journey to find Justin Bieber's #1 Belieber. You may think that is an impossible quest as he has over 13 million twitter followers and over 37 million 'likes' on his Facebook Fan Page, but impossible doesn't exist in our vocabulary.

We took submissions from all over the planet, including letters, drawings, and videos. Finally we pinpointed a set of girls in Maryland that had us laughing, smiling, and all agreeing on who the #1 Belieber was.

Caeley Santos and Gurleen Ahuja from Maryland submitted a video to us where they showed us their rooms, told us why they loved him, and even did a little begging in the end. They even linked us to their Justin Bieber fansite they created on Facebook for their fellow Maryland fans. You can check it out here at Justin Biebers Fans - Maryland

They will be receiving a custom made, one of a kind, #1 Belieber display box with their choice of Justin Bieber CD (they chose My World Acoustics) and of course labeled #1 Belieber. Check them out below and give them a shout out on twitter @jbleenie and @rockmysoxbiebs to tell them congratulations!

Co-Creator of Artists On Demand, Nikki Moore, Interview

What made you and Vicky decide to start Artists On Demand?

Vicky and I were having a normal conversation one day, a few years ago and she happened to mention that we should start an online radio show. We were heavily involved with 100 Monkeys and their fan club at the time, along with Spencer Bell Legacy so having our own radio show where we could promote these two bands was ideal.

Not to mention, we both love Indie music and a few years ago the industry was right on the cusp of letting these bands on mainstream radio. It wasn’t happening fast enough for us so we created Artists On Demand. It was a place where our friends and us could talk about the music we liked and others could join in.

What are your biggest passions in life?

I have quite a few passions in life, music being the biggest. I’ve spent years around musicians, concerts etc…I’ve surrounded myself with people who play music independently and people who love music just as much as I do. I really want to represent the little guy, the artists and bands who can’t catch a break. I feel like I’ve overcome some of these issues in my personal life so why not pay it forward?

Artists On Demand has grown quite a bit over the last couple years. How does it make you feel to see your listenership and popularity growing?

Honestly, the whole thing makes me emotional. It’s so rewarding to see this seed of an idea grow into such an amazing flower, you know? It’s perplexing to me when people talk about AOD from a fan’s perspective because in my mind it’s still the little show that could…that little radio show run by friends who did one show a week. I’m very honored to be associated with such an amazing group of ladies and the show.

Where do you hope to see Artists On Demand go over the next couple years?

I would love to see us go viral. Maybe a show on XM/Sirius radio or a platform where we can reach even more people than we do now! It would be amazing to travel, get one on one interviews from backstage at various shows. The possibilities are endless but mostly, I’d love to see us all succeed at whatever life happens to throw at us.

What is the most shocking thing to date that has happened to you being part of Artists On Demand?

The most shocking thing? That will always be interviewing Bryan White. He is someone I adore and he has been there for me indirectly through his music for over eleven years. I was blown away by his humbleness, the same level of humbleness I viewed in him when I was sixteen and meeting him for the first time.

What five musical guests would you recommend everyone listen to?

I recommend you listen to them all. I will give you my top two… Ian Axel and Bryan White.

What are your tips for musicians and artists that want to submit to be on Artists On Demand?

Be persistent, send us your stuff and make it happen! That’s how we’ve gotten this far so the formula works. Oh and contact Kristin, the Program Manager Queen.

Anything you can spill on what is to come in the near future on Artists On Demand?

No details BUT, there are some very big things in our future. Like any good things in life, it takes time, patience and money. You haven’t seen the last of AOD and the powerhouse team of ladies who run the show. We’re here to stay!

Quickfire with Kristin Downer from Artists On Demand

(Article from Imagine PR in July 2010)

Artists On Demand radio has become one of the most popular entertainment shows on Blog Talk Radio with listeners in the thousands. You can find everything from today’s hottest up and coming bands/musicians, popular artists and photographers, directors, producers, and the most popular celebrities from TV and movies.

Presenter and booker Kristin Downer kindly agreed to answer some quick fire questions about herself, her music tastes and what she looks for from musicians on AOD:

1. What are your passions in life?
My life is filled with different kinds of passions. I love finding different and new things and helping spread the word about them. I love music and find it invigorating to find something new and unique that gives you a breath of fresh air when it comes to a business full of the same sound. I love books, and movies, and anything that can really catch your attention. And of course I am first and foremost a mom.

2. Tell us about Artist on Demand radio and how it started.
Artists On Demand started with two of my best friends, Nikki Moore and Vicky Gorman. They wanted a place for their favorite bands and musicians to be able to share their music and their own passions. I joined shortly after it started and it has taken on a life of its own! It’s much bigger than what we originally thought it would be and we have high hopes for it in the future. We interview mainstream celebrities from the hottest TV shows and Movies. We also interview directors, producers, authors, dancers, and anyone else with an art form of any kind. We pride ourselves on giving independent musicians and bands a place to share their music though. Music is our number one passion.
3. What 5 up and coming bands do you recommend we check out?
Five up and coming bands that I think everyone should check out are:

The Nova Echo – Their music is fresh and upbeat. They can make you dance or just sway in place and it always draws you in with the lyrics and the sound. They are also some of the nicest and most down to earth people you will ever meet.

100 Monkeys – I have listened to this band for quite a while and over the past year they have evolved so much. They started out just doing improv songs that they made up from ideas from the audience and themselves. Now they write amazing music with meaningful lyrics. They are multi-talented and put on an amazing stage performance which includes their “switcharoos” where the band switches up instruments throughout the show.

Ian Axel – Ian is an amazing singer/songwriter out of New York. His skills on the piano are to die for and his music is soulful and smooth. You can hear the passion he puts into his work. I would recommend him to anyone.
EdstanleY: They are a band out of Los Angeles that are getting ready to do a mini tour around the west coast. They have a heavier sound, but amazing at the same time. Very down to earth guys with a great sound and great passion.

Forever The Day – This band has not yet been on AOD, but I am hoping for it in the near future. An amazing group of guys with an amazing sound. They have a very classical rock feel to them and have amazing musicians within the band that add to the songs. It is well worth checking them out.

4. Do you have a tips for musicians applying to be on Artists on Demand?
The only tip for musicians that are wanting to come on Artists On Demand is to be themselves. We like unique music, upbeat personalities, and people who just generally care about their careers. We don’t want to hear someone playing someone else’s music. We want you to show who you are as a musician just give us all you got. Be you.

5. What online sites do you use the most to discover new music?
We use all sources to discover new music. A lot of the music we find is on referrals from other bands, our listeners, or a lot come from our staff. Myspace is also a great place for new music. Myspace Music has charts for unsigned and signed bands. You can find anyone you want and any genre you want. Reverbnation is also a great avenue to find good music. All the information you could want about a band is on there.

Featured Host: Vicky Gorman

“Starting Artists on Demand for me was about spotlighting my favorite bands, some of which I felt didn’t get the attention they deserved” –Gorman

Vicky Gorman is a 23 year old entrepreneur and the brains behind Artists On Demand. Artists on Demand Radio came about when Vicky Gorman brought the idea to start a talk radio show to Nikki Moore, one of the shows other four managers. The inspiration behind it was that their favorite independent bands weren’t getting the recognition they deserved. They started inviting bands and musicians that needed an outlet to share their music and their stories. As they continued to grow, the listeners voiced the idea of having other forms of artists on the show. They now host shows that feature some of today’s hottest celebrities in categories including acting, dance, music, authors, directors, and producers.

For all of you vampire lovers out there, Artists on Demand has recently featured actors from “True Blood” and the latest in the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”

“I’m very proud of what we have achieved with Artists on Demand. The team we currently have is giving their best and is really getting the show out there. The sky is the limit!”

When asked about their future goals for the show, Gorman shared “We want to take Artists on Demand to a bigger audience. We want people to recognize that we can bring them opportunities that most radio shows don’t. We enjoy giving the fans one to one time with their favorite celebrities.”

Music and Movie Mondays Song of the Week: Ryan Bingham

Hey Everyone,

I am starting a new weekly blog post about my song recommendation of the week. I plan to post the music video or a live performance of the song on here and tell you a little bit about the artist who performs that song.

My song and artist of the week this time around is: Ryan Bingham - Southside of Heaven.

Ryan Bingham is a young singer/songwriter from Texas. His raspy voice, country/blues lyrics, and all around soul makes him a joy to listen to. He has three albums to his name including Junky Star (2010), Roundhouse Sun (2009), and Mescalito (2007).

"Southside of Heaven" it a song that has a lot of longing and heartbreak to it. Its a song that makes you think and also makes you sing along without a choice. Great guitar and banjo are on this track. This song is on the Mescalito album. This song and his music is all available for purchase on ITUNES. Check it out!
