MegaCon 2012 Review & Interviews

If you were in the Orlando area last weekend and you were not at the Orange County Convention Center, then you were missing out. MegaCon took over Orlando with some of today's hottest names in science fiction. Among some of the celebrity attendees were comic book legend Stan Lee (Check out our interview with him from February 16th here), Tom Felton (Harry Potter, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), David Anders (The Vampire Diaries), Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries), Peter Mayhew (Star Wars), Brent Spiner (Star Trek), and many more.

The weekend kicked off as attendees filed into the massive exhibit room. You could find anything from comic book stands, memorabilia, and costumes. Fans flocked to the shops as well as got in line to pick up tickets for photo ops with some of their favorite celebrities.  The most popular photo ops were Stan Lee (obviously), Tom Felton, and Joseph Morgan. Many were dissatisfied with the photo op time frame, as you were allotted approximately five seconds (we counted) with the star before you were ushered out the other side. For $30-$50 per picture, at least thirty seconds would have been nice.

The photos, on the otherhand, were fantastic and left a lasting memory (and bragging rights) to your friends on how you got to meet (and briefly lay your hands on) your favorite celebrities. You could get a little more one on one time with the celebrities of your choice by visiting their booths. This was where you could get your autographs and just chat with them (if they had a free moment, as they were running back and forth between photo ops, Q&A's, and personal time.). The Vampire Diaries stars made some extra time to chat with each and every fan that came up for an autograph.

We got a chance to chat with Ghost Hunters International crew members Scott Tepperman and Paul Bradford about the new season, which kicked off on February 22nd at 9 pm EST on SyFy. They are two of the funniest people we have ever had the privileged of interviewing.

(Paul Bradord and Scott Tepperman with Program Manager, Kristin, and videographer, Brittany)

Tom Felton took a few minutes with each fan to answer questions, talk about his beloved dog Timber, and made a few fans swoon with names like sweetheart and lovely. Yes ladies, this man is just as beautiful and polite in person as he seems online and during interviews. A gentleman and one of the most down to earth celebrities we have encountered. Same can be said for Corin Nemec, who you may recognize from Supernatural or Stargate SG1. We got a chance to talk to him about his experience in acting and meeting up with fans at MegaCon.

(Corin Nemec)

Last, but certainly not least, we sat down with David Anders, who played John Gilbert, father to Elena, in the hit CW show Vampire Diaries, while he had lunch. We got the scoop on what he is up to, his favorite memories from the set of Vampire Diaries, and when we should be on the lookout for his most recent projects.

(David Anders and Program Manager, Kristin)

(David Anders with videographer, Brittany)

All in all, you missed out if you weren't at MegaCon anytime during February 17th-19th. The panels were informative and hilarious with some of the biggest names in scifi, you got to get up close and personal with those same celebrities, and the fans made the event more colorful with inspired costumes and designs as they meandered their way through the many shops and exhibits. MegaCon staff sure knows how to throw a party and this convention was by far one of the best we have ever been to.

MegaCon already has a little bit of information up for next years event so you can start planning now. Will you be there in 2013? We sure will!

The 23-year old artist has been nominated for 6 Grammy Awards including Best Album of the Year and Best Song of the Year.

Billboard's associate director of charts, Keith Caulfield said that he expectes Adele to captivate the viewers during the Grammy's much like she did at the BRIT awards in February 2011 and MTV Video Music Awards in August.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" second official trailer

The second official trailer for Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" was recently released and it contains a hidden treasure for "Spider-Man" fans.

A hint of a marketing tie-in website that may lead to a possible alternative-reality game is hidden in the trailer. The link appears very quickly (a moment before Peter Parker sees a red-painted spider on a wall) that a blink of an eye could make one miss it.

The site markofthespider-man.com may be just another portal for viral teasers instead of an ARG but fans now have another place to watch for updates of the film.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" stars Andrew Garfield (whose American accent by the way is very impressive,) Emma Stone, and Rhys Ifans. It is scheduled to be released on July 3rd, 2012.
