BOOK REVIEW: "Off Balance" by Dominique Moceanu

To any girl, child or teenage, who knew anything about women's gymnastics leading up to the 1996 Olympic Games knew who Dominique Moceanu was and wanted to be just like her. After the Magnificent Seven (the name for the seven amazing women that won the first ever women's gymnastics team Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta, Georgia) clenched the title, it appeared the Dominique Moceanu was on top of the world. Her life was perfect, right?

With the release of her memoir, "Off Balance", America's sweetheart shares the bitter sweet truth behind her years training for Olympic stardom. From the outside, it appeared Moceanu had the ideal life of a loving supportive family, loving coaches, and her dream in her hand. The book shares the heart wrenching truth about working through injuries because of fear, the mental and physical abuse, and that feeling of never being good enough. As you read through this book your heart will ache for this little girl who the world thought had it all.

Aside from the struggles she has faced, you also hear how Moceanu pushed through the pain, grasped her life with both hands, and ripped it back into her own power. She shares the joy of finding she had another sister who was put up for adoption, fighting to comeback to a sport she loved so dearly, and falling in love with the man of her dreams.

A truly riveting story that gives you an inside look into a sport you thought you knew, how nothing has really changed since then, and how one woman is continuing to fight to save the sport she loves.
