R.I.P. to "The Monkees" hit maker...

Music producer and promoter Don Kirshner, 76, died at his Florida home on Monday. Kirshner is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheila, two children and grandchildren.

Kirshner was the man behind the hits "Where The Boys Are" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling." He produced songs that legendary performers like Elvis Presley had recorded.

Kirshner also supervised the music for sitcoms "I Dreamed of Jeannie" and "Bewitched" but Kirshner was most notable for the music he produced for the hit show "The Monkees."

"Don Kirshner's Rock Concert", Kirshner's "weekly rock-concert" program which he produced and hosted himself was created in September of 1973. The program lasted until 1981 and featured artists such as The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, The Bee Gees, The Police, David Bowie, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and Stevie Wonder.

In 2007, Kirshner joined the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
