The Walking Dead Premiere Shatters Records
The Walking Dead returned for Season 3 on AMC this past Sunday, October 14th. Was the zombie craze fading? Were vampires going to make a comeback? Not according to the numbers! The Walking Dead premiered to 10.9 million viewers, which makes it the most-watched episode of any drama series in basic cable history. Talk about awesome!
Not only did it shatter records, but it also garnered an additional 3.5 million viewers for the encore at 10 pm and an additional 850,000 at the midnight showing, giving The Walking Dead 15.2 million viewers for the opening night premiere. Incredible? We think so!
AMC President, Charlie Collier, released a statement:
"Thank you to the fans for making The Walking Dead such a tremendous success. We are honored and humbled that television's largest adult audience resides on AMC. So many people on both sides of the camera worked tirelessly on this project, and I thank and congratulate each of them for their amazing contribution."
With astounding numbers, AMC tried to accommodate DISH subscribers, who lost the privelege to watch The Walking Dead due to disputes between the two companies, but the live stream online crashed because so many people tried to stream it. All is well, as the episode should be online for those who missed it.
Make sure to tune in the episode two on Sunday, October 21st at 9 pm!
