Carrie Fisher Receives Award for Telling her Story
Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher has been recognized for her work in raising peoples' awareness of bipolar disorder and also for opening up about her own personal experience.
Fisher, who suffers from bipolar disorder, has been awarded the Kim Peek Award for Disability in the Media by the Utah Film Center. The actress has said that people can choose to be victims to the disorder, but this is clearly not something that she herself has chosen.
The fact that she deals with the disorder with a blend of grace, humor and defiance was highlighted by Geralyn Dreyfous, the founder of the Utah Film Center.
Well done to Carrie for all her efforts - the award is certainly well deserved!
