Disney's Fantasyland Expansion Adds More for Boys.

Orlando Tourism

Gaston, one of the male characters from Beauty and the Beast, is one of the stars of New Fantasyland. Beauty and the Beast, is one of the most popular Disney movies in recent decades, and Gaston is just one of the many ways Walt Disney World has focused on boys in this expansion of the Magic Kingdom, the largest in the park's history.  The grand opening is today.

Gaston isn't the only male character now playing a major role alongside the princesses that have long been the main attraction. Beast (from Beauty and the Beast, as you might guess) and Prince Eric of "The Little Mermaid" each have their own castles in the expansion. Once the only castle in the Magic Kingdom was Cinderella's.  Cinderella's castle is awesome, but the more castles the better!

Beast's castle houses the new French-themed restaurant Be Our Guest, while Prince Eric's castle sits atop the new ride, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid. The addition of two new castles has changed the landscape of the Magic Kingdom.

The host was quick to point out, however, that all the additions to Fantasyland -- a second Dumbo ride, the new castles, the restaurants -- were less about singling out little boys, and more about inclusion of the entire family. "Walt's goal," he said, "was to be in the moment, to experience the family all together."

What do you think?  Princesses rule and boys drool or are you happy to see some variety?  Are you ever too old or too cool for theme parks?  I don't think so! How about you?
