Singer Jenni Rivera Dies in Plane Crash
Singer Jenni Rivera has tragically died in a plane crash at the age of 43. The Mexican-American singer, born Dolores Janney Rivera, was on board with six other people. It is understood those people were two pilots, a cabin crew member and Rivera's publicist, lawyer and makeup artist. The singer had performed in Monterrey on Saturday night (see footage from that concert below) and her plane took off at about 3.30am on Sunday morning.
Traffic controllers then lost contact with the plane about 10 minutes later. A search for the plane ensued and, hours later, the plane wreckage was found in Mexico. Mexican officials said there were no survivors and Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, the Transportation and Communications Minister, has revealed that "there is nothing recognisable, neither material nor human."
Rivera, who was born in California, has been a strong figure in the Latino music scene for the last two decades, has sold over 20 million albums and received multiple nominations for the Latin Grammys. In addition to her musical success, Rivera was also quite the entrepreneur, starting up a number of companies that spanned across clothing, fragrance, cosmetics, music and even realty.
The talented Rivera was also in the process of taping the third season of her reality show "I Love Jenni" and as recently as last week, struck a deal with ABC to star in a new comedy show called "Jenni".
Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends at this tough time, especially her five children and two grandchildren.
