It's the iconic role that Julie Andrews took on in The Sound of Music and, now, country singer Carrie Underwood is set to play Maria von Trapp in a television version of the Academy-award winning movie.
NBC announced on Friday that they're "thrilled to be presenting the Broadway version of ‘The Sound of Music’ live, and having Carrie Underwood as the star brings it to a new generation who will fall in love with it for the first time as many millions of people already have."
The new adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is scheduled to be broadcast on NBC in 2013.
