Confirmed: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is Pregnant

There have been many, many stories and reports about whether Kate Middleton is pregnant and she has been on almost constant bump watch since her wedding to Prince William in April 2011, but it has now been confirmed that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting the couple's first baby.

An official statement released by St James' Palace said "Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby. The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."

While this is obviously very good news, it's believed that the Duchess is less than 12 weeks pregnant and that the announcement was made earlier than planned, as Kate was admitted to King Edward VII hospital. The Duchess was admitted with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a condition that sees expectant mothers suffer from severe morning sickness and nausea.

In regards to her hospitalization, St James' Palace advised that "As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter."

In October last year, leaders of Commonwealth countries also agreed that the succession law. Previously, a male heir had more claim to the throne than a female heir, regardless of whether he was older or not. But with the new succession law, female heirs will have the same rights as any male heir, meaning that Kate and William's first born child will be third in line to the throne behind Prince Charles and Prince William, despite it's gender.

Our biggest congratulations go out to the happy couple and their families!
