Bil Keane, creator of comic strip "The Family Circus" died at age 89.
Keane was born in 1922 in Philadelphia and said to have taught himself to draw when in high school.
His comic strip "The Family Circus" debuted in February 29th, 1960. It is featured in nearly 15000 newspapers across the United States.
Keane passed away in his home in Arizona from congestive heart failuer. He was survived by his five children he had with wife Thelma Keane. Thelma died of Alzheimer's disease in 2008 and was the inspiration for the Mommy character in Keane's comic strip.
