With Becca Greene's script, "The Beard" will be co-produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Mason Novick.
The "beard" in the film refers to "a member of the opposite sex -- usually a woman -- who acts as a date for a gay person, giving the illusion the person isn’t gay." Details of the story were not revealed.
In the meantime, Witherspoon is shooting "Devil's Knot" by Atom Egoyan which also stars Colin Firth. It is Egoyan's take on the "West Memphis Three murder case."
