MOVIE REVIEW: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2

Before we say anything... if you HAVE NOT seen this movie yet... stop reading. Turn around! Hit your back button. Anything, but read this. Spoilers are included. We'll give you a minute to consider...

For those still with us... WOW! That is probably the best way to describe the fifth installment of The Twilight Saga's movies. As someone who has seen all of them as they released, read the books, was slightly disappointed with certain aspects of the other movies, I will say that Bill Condon NAILED it. Hats off to you Mr. Condon. Round of applause!

Let's break this down a little...
1. They finally got the hair right! After 3 movies of slightly awful hair, Breaking Dawn (1 & 2 seems they were filmed back to back) the cast looked fantastic. Bella's hair... stunning! Rosalie's didn't look like a wig. Carlisle had a brief moment where it wasn't the best, but ended up great the rest of the time. Even Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), who's hair they kept making worse as the franchise went on, was on point. About time!

2. Edward/Bella love: Could these two get any cuter? They were adorable and the writers included lots of little moments that made the big picture all that better. Adorable little smirks, kisses, touches, etc.

3. Vamp Bella! Was she hot or was she hot? Kristen Stewart definitely pulled off the newborn, red eyed, vamp look. She's right. She was "born to be a vampire".

4. Favorite scenes? Jacob calling Renesmee "Nessie". Arm wrestling with Emmett. Every single scene Charlie was in (Billy Burke is hilarious!). And the entire final... 30 minutes of the movie.

5. Speaking of ending: Did you jaws come unhinged? Mine rolled around on the floor of the theater along with everyone elses. You know what part I am talking about. I'm not going to spoil it (just in case there is anyone reading this that did not listen to me in the beginning and chose to read this anyway). I fully agree with RPattz though. "I can't believe they had the balls to do it!" I'm fairly certain they almost caused a riot. You know what I speak of... and I know you agree.

6. The one negative part of the movie: The creepy CGI baby Renesmee. She was creepy! SUPER creepy! I understand there is not a lot of ways to make a newborn baby have teeth, facial expressions, smile, etc, so I won't complain much. But that was the only part of the movie I can say was not fantastic!

So all in all... A++! And the tribute at the end to all the cast throughout ALL the movies... so heart warming. I'm so proud to be a Twilight fan at this moment because this movie blew me away. By far the best in the series! Great job!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Ashley Rickards Talks Season End of "Awkward" with Artists On Demand

You may know her as Sam on the recently ended "One Tree Hill" or more importantly as the oh-so-loveable Jenna on MTV's hit show 'Awkward'. Ashley Rickards took a moment out of her jam packed schedule (the girl is constantly working on new projects) to answer a few questions about the season end of 'Awkward', how she get's into character, and what else she has up her sleeve for the fans.

You play Jenna Hamilton on MTV’s hit show ‘Awkward’. What do you love about playing this role?

Jenna is a type of character I had never played before. She is the every girl, and that provides me with an opportunity to speak to young girls in such a beneficial way. I’m able to emphasize the facts—real teens aren’t perfect, flawless looking or falsely living a plush life. And on the other hand, I’m able to step outside of myself in this role. I’m very different than my character, and one of my favorite aspects of acting is the portrayal of many different types of people and characters. I get to do that with Jenna.

You have been doing this show now for two seasons. How do you think your character has grown or changed through those seasons?

Well Jenna certainly has changed. In season one the show followed Jenna as she learned about who she was and how to be the best she can be. Now, in this season, she is learning how to be the best she can be in whatever life throws at her. She is learning about circumstance and decision making based on her own self-knowledge. And in a broader philosophical sense, exploring the idea that no matter what we decide or what life throws at us, that we can or will come out the other side ok or better because of it.

What do you think it is about this show that the fans love so much?

Well the show at its core is a dynamic force, purely because we try to be honest with Jenna. When fans see a real person, not a glamorized or cinematically pleasing person, they relate. And it’s this pull in, the honest portrayal and realistic circumstance, that gives fans something to root for. Because they are rooting for a possibility, not a fantasy.

You have managed to find yourself in quite the love triangle. What can fans expect to see come of that?

It’s probably a safe bet to assume that Beau will be shirtless a few more times. But otherwise, They can expect to see some incredibly introspective views on the potential with both boys. Because to love another, you must love yourself. To know another, you must know yourself. And neither of those two phrases are mutually exclusive.

Awkward is a pretty good name for any kid in their teen years, as everyone goes through awkward moments. Do you think fans can relate to someone in the show, whether it be you, or the “super popular kids”?

I absolutely think fans are relating to Jenna. That’s one of the big reasons that the show is a hit. Fans and viewers alike can recognize that most of the characters are very much an honest model of the average teen.

Do you and your character Jenna have anything in common?

As an actress, it’s my job to create a character with what’s given to me. Having things in common with any character I portray is mostly irrelevant in my line of work. It would be a crime to try to bring my own psyche into the ‘Jenna’ equation as I am not her. I did not live her life or her past. Therefore, it is only my job to imagine and build a whole life to then utilize and portray accordingly in as much separation from myself as possible.

What can fans expect as the last few new episodes air? More drama? Will there be a cliffhanger?

This season’s end is less of a ‘cliffhanger’ per say and more of a philosophical note. It leaves the audience wondering exactly what will Jenna do next season, what will she do with what she has now?

You’ve done many other projects, including playing Samantha Walker on One Tree Hill. What do you do to get yourself into your characters to make them believable?

I have to be very specific with the person I am portraying. I cement their style, philosophies, tendencies, being and ideals and then factor in their past and hopes for the future into their behavior in the script. It’s a thrill to delve into a whole other person with abandon.

Aside from Awkward, are there any other projects you are currently working on that the fans can look out for?

A movie I filmed recently, Struck By Lightning, will be playing in theaters very soon. I also just finished filming a new movie and as of right now and not allowed to discuss any further details other than the fact that I know you guys will love it!

For those who may not know, where can fans find you online?

I’ll be on twitter, hashtagging hashtags about hashtags under @ashleyrickards

We always like to end our interviews on a fun note. So here is a few of our infamous “Fun Questions”. If you could go on a road trip with any person, dead or alive, who would you choose and where would you go?

Definitely someone from Ice road truckers. I mean that would be incredible. Truckin’ on ice…

If you could be any flavor jelly belly (jelly bean), what flavor would you be and why? Feel free to make up a new flavor.

I’d be a flavor called “I’ll stop talking now.” Haha.

A HUGE thanks to Ashley Rickards for talking with us and giving us the inside scoop of what is to come on the last piece of this season of 'Awkward'. We look forward to following her on many more projects and onto the next season!

INTERVIEW: Michael Pena “End of Watch”

Artists on Demand had the chance to sit down with Michael Pena last week to talk about his role in End of Watch. End of Watch is an intense, documentary-style, film focused on the everyday life of 2 cops in the LAPD solving crimes and becoming heroes. We walk in to the small room, and sit at our round table (somewhat nervously) while Michael seems extremely relaxed and laid back. You can tell he’s done this a million times too many. After we introduce ourselves and settle in, notepads in hand, iPhones ready to record, we ease into a brief conversation about visiting his brother before filming his new movie, End of Watch. Pena mentioned how channeling his brother's experience with his own first-born allowed him to find another connection with his character, Mike Zavala, who is also a father to a newborn daughter. Finally, it was time to get started with the questions.

-         “I read that in some scenes you had cameras attached to you to   capture the realism of certain scenes, how did that experience feel?

o   It was different from any other film I’ve ever done. Number one, you have to operate the cameras. It was pretty interesting. Sometimes it was to our benefit, because they were so small you wouldn’t notice the camera. So you could act through any sort of nerves. There’s always pressure in any movie set if you think about it, there’s something that you memorize and it’s almost like public speaking all day, every day. So, there’s a crew, people, monitors and if you mess up you have to do it until you get it right. Sometimes you go blank! It was cool though, because at any point in time there were five cameras on you. So you had to make sure you were always “in the scene” and that you never gave up on it.
-          “Were all of the cameras okay? I mean, any damaged lenses after you finished shooting the scenes?”
o   “Yeah, I think they were all pretty good, from what I remember. It was kind of a crazy shoot. Crazy 22 day shoot. It was a hard, hard shoot. We filmed 12 hours a day. It was hard. For a whole movie to be filmed in just 22 days. But I remember when I was running with the camera here (points at his chest), and a monitor here in a giant backpack. I felt like the Mexican Robocop.  I definitely looked futuristic.”
-           “With filming down in LA, and actually where you were policing in the “hood”, was there a mix of actors and, shall we say members, of crime?”
o   You mean members of the crime family? Um, I mean for the most part there were mostly ex-gangbangers, if not gangbangers at the time, that we were going up against. There were a lot of real Mexicans in the movie. The extras were Mexican. Not anybody with a tan ‘Yeah, you have a tan… What’s your name? George Stallman? But you have a tan, so you can be Mexican today. Say ‘Que pasa my friend?’ PERFECT! You’re in the movie!’ So yeah, it was pretty gnarly we were shooting in South Central, but it was so weird sometimes because there were paparazzi, for Jake. And he was like “DUDE! YOU’RE IN THE SHOT!” They follow that dude like flies on shit. It’s unbelievable. They don’t follow me like that. I don’t want that. It’s crazy. He lives a gnarly life having to do that. Then you become friends with all these guys and they don’t wish that upon anybody. You know?

After the first two questions, it was time for Artists on Demand to get in on the action… Our questions were up next.
-          Cachie asked: The movie is documentary-style, it made it feel so raw and real and it didn’t feel like you were following a script too much. Did you get to improvise a lot of your lines or were you working directly with the script?
o   I was directly working with the script. All the essence of the scenes had to be there. There was one time… I sat down and asked David (the writer & director) ‘Can I change this to this?’ and he was always like ‘NO.’ Then, ‘Alright how about this?’ ‘Nope.’ ‘This?’ ‘No.’ ‘Alright, you know what I’ll just keep it the same?’ ‘That sounds like a great idea!’ But you know, there’s moments where we’re supposed to be doing a scene and something happens, you need to react to that. If not, it won’t turn out very well and you can’t use that take. So there’s a lot things that happen in every movie that you need to respond to. But I’m going to say that 98% of it all was written. Which is a lot to be honest.
-          Cachie: Well just so you know, it didn’t really look written at all.
o   The whole movie?
-          Cachie: Well, most of it, like the conversations that you had with Jake. It seemed so natural, I mean, which is why you’re an actor. Because you can do that. You’re a professional.
o   We had the style of the movie in mind from the get- go. The first line says ‘Notice: This will all be found footage.’ And when you think of found footage, you think of YouTube, security cameras and nobody is acting in those. So we had 4 to 5 months of actual pre production and rehearsal. But, in order to make it look like you’re not acting, you have to rehearse like crazy! Not necessarily to know how to say something, but to know what you’re saying. Like, the best way to describe it, and we do this to young actors, we say ‘Well, tell me how you got here.’ So then they go into how they arrived at the location you’re at and then we say ‘Ok, say it again, but be more specific’ You know, the more you do it, the more specific you get, the easier and faster you can do it. Then you picture it, you want other people to picture it and then it’s much easier. That’s in essence what I did.

Another journalist at the table jumped in and added:
-          Even the line where you say “could you live without her?” cause that was a really powerful line.
o   Yeah, that was definitely ALL David. That was a tough one because it was written very, very specific. And sometimes it’s rhythm that gets you out of it. What I chose to do was is this thing where I ask a question at the end? Like that thing? Where it’s kind of cool? Like I’m doing right now? And I actually imitate my friend because he talks just like that. You know, cause I’m kind of monotone sometimes. So what I did was make it like I was kind of telling a story.

Artists on Demand were right back on the table with our next question, this time from our host, Michelle!
-          Michelle: There were a lot of action scenes, did you have any specific type of training beforehand and did you do any of your own stunts?
o   Yeah, I actually did Ninja training! Nah, just kidding. They’re like ‘Alright bro, there isn’t a lot of ninja shit in the movie, but if you want to sneak around and kick someone’s ass, you can!’ Um, no, I did a lot of training actually. Believe it or not, I was a little chubby for the movie; I almost didn’t get the part. My son was 2 years old at the time. So, all we did was eat ice cream and basically anything he wanted, I’d give it to him. ‘You want this? Have it. I don’t even know what it is, but take it.’ So yeah, it was really interesting, in no time at all, you blow up. A week consisted of working out like 10 times and three of them were sparring because we were going to fight. And I’ve really got to thank this guy because he put us in a boot camp, sort of, where you need to do anything that a cop did. You know, these guys have to fight and handle weapons; we rehearsed what they say and learned how to clear a room. There’s a specific way that you clear a room I had never learned before where you basically come into a room through a corner and you see the other guy before he sees you. They actually had us do all this with live ammunition. There would be posters everywhere, where each poster was a different character and when you have a live gun, it’s nerve-wracking. But it was pretty cool, we were able to start liking it a lot after a while, but the training was unbelievable. We went into a burning house, they filled this room full of smoke and there was like a cake of smoke underneath. What’s weird about that is that the whole thing turns into flames. It was like WHOA! But, it was one of the weirdest things I’ve ever done and we had to put water everywhere. Within 3 seconds, you were covered in sweat. It was pretty gnarly. So hot and weird.
-          Michelle: Thought about being a cop maybe?
o   No, no… Not at all.
-          About the scenes with you and Jake, those were the best parts of the movie. You both have amazing chemistry as cops, partners, best friends, overgrown kids. You guys were hilarious. Did you have that chemistry with Jake instantly? Or did you build it?
o   Not at all. He’ll be the first to tell you. It’s not that we hated each other; he’s just a different dude than I am. You know, I grew up poor; he grew up with a little bit of cash. My parents were farmers; his were a director and writer. I have a brother, he has a sister. Almost everything you can think of opposite. The director kept saying ‘Trust me, you guys will become friends.’ And I was like ‘Okay... sure.’ It’s not that he’s a bad guy, there was just nothing in common. My best friend was here yesterday and he likes baseball; I like baseball. So the way we met was a time I was hitting on his girlfriend. I didn’t know it was his girlfriend, so all I said was ‘Hey! We have the same taste!’ His mom was actually the one that convinced me to become an actor. It’s just easy with him, I’ve known the guy for 22 years. So it’s easy, we have a lot in common. We love the Chicago Bears. So when you don’t get along, you don’t find that chemistry you’re just like ‘Yeah, he’s a cool dude.’ But oddly enough, it’s because the boot camp style of working that we became friends. But we also both really love this movie. There isn’t many times where you get a Latin American/Latino to have one of the starring roles in a movie. Like World Trade Center, The Lucky Ones – It’s been like 7 years. World Trade Center was after Crash and 2 years later. I wish it would be like every year, but that’s not the fact. I’m chomping at the bits when I get an opportunity like that. Also, he’s an actor, an artist; you know he’s trying to make it go right. Something that really helped us out was talking about our family. Talking about how I am with my brother. I would tell him ‘You know how people fight, but you can tell they’re still friends?’ and he would say ‘Nah, man you’re full of shit.’ Instead of being all mad and saying ‘NAH, MAN YOU’RE FULL OF SHIT!!!’ That’s something a stranger would say. When you know somebody you’re just like ‘Shut up dude…’ So yeah, that’s really real.

Michelle and I look at each other at almost the same exact moment and he says
o   Do you guys do that?
-          Cachie and Michelle: yeah, all the time.
o   So you see, that’s so real! We had little discoveries here and there through rehearsing. Also with my wife, well, not my real wife, my wife in the movie played by Natalie Martinez. We spent 2 to 3 days together every day for 5 months. So you really get to know someone. It’s one thing to play a young married couple and another to play a REAL young, married couple. Where we’re so comfortable in front of each other. There’s this one scene where she’s talking about all this sexual stuff and I’m like ‘WHOA! DUDE!’ you know you can only do those things with your wife! ‘BABE, NO!’ You know with how close you are and stuff. It’s kind of cool to get that in a sort of time capsule so to speak.
-          Michael, you just finished wrapping up Chavez and also finished re-shooting Gangster Squad. So how are those projects coming along?
o   Well, gangster squad is now coming out in like January or something. It’s a cool movie great script. Super fun and kind of homage to old gangster movies.
-          You get to work with Anthony again!
o   Anthony [Mackie]! That guy, he’s got Million Dollar Baby, The Hurt Locker…
-          Well, you’ve got those too! You’re close.
o   Yeah I did Million Dollar Baby and Crash. But yeah that was really cool. The cast is amazing. You’ve got Sean Penn… I can’t even remember. Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie… Me at the very end. Chavez is really awesome. That one is going to come out next year around this time, hopefully.
-          And you get to work with America too.
o   Yeah! That’s crazy. She’s such a good actress, dude. He just kept us together. We weren’t like buddy, buddy. We got to do Chavez, she played my wife and I was like ‘she’s really cool, man!’ But she’s that good, the type of actress where you play her adversary, you can tell she doesn’t quite like you. But if she plays your wife, you know there’s a little bit of love there for me. I think that’s what makes her a good actress. She’s able to use reality well.

And that’s a wrap! Hopefully our interview encourages you to check out the flick which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Anna Kendrick and Natalie Martinez. After watching the movie, I can honestly say it’s worth watching. So make sure to catch Michael Pena and his co-star Jake Gyllenhaal in End of Watch coming to theaters on September 21st! Don’t miss it!

Nitro Circus the Movie 3D in theaters

Imagine if the makers of Jackass collided with every extreme sport their was... that is what Nitro Circus the Movie 3D is about. Extreme Sports and incredibly stupid (they call it that themselves) tricks slammed together into a movie and released to the public. You will be on the edge of your seat watching this movie, which hit theaters on August 8th.

"Nitro Circus is about trying to find where it's not possible to go.... and going there."

SYNOPSIS: For the sports adventure troupe known as Nitro Circus, no dream is too out-there, no idea is too high-risk and no never-before-seen stunt is too hilariously impossible-sounding to attempt.  They laugh at gravity as they somersault across skyscrapers, merrily fly buses off cliffs, gleefully morph their bodies into human torpedoes, and generally aim to have more fearless fun than anyone else on the planet.  And now, this summer, the action-athletes who never stop pushing the boundaries of what others say can and can’t be done head off on their wildest and most inspiring quest yet, in three dimensions.

For the first time, viewers will get a chance to ride shotgun as Circus members leap, spin, crash, flip, flail and ultimately triumph on some of the most sidesplitting and seemingly undoable athletic concepts that ever popped into the human mind.

They’re on the road to world domination . . . or at least to Las Vegas . . . as they pull off a series of one-of-a-kind, irreverent stunts in pursuit of creating the ultimate live show in the heart of America’s entertainment mecca.

The result is NITRO CIRCUS THE MOVIE 3D, a rollicking history of how this madcap band of no-limits adrenaline addicts are pioneering the territory where action sports and entertainment collide.  As it unfolds their ramps-to-riches story, the film becomes a you-are-there showcase of the Circus’s most hair-raising, barrier-shattering stunts.  Building up to their big dream of conquering Vegas, the circus members pilot all manner of machines – from rally cars, dirt bikes and monster trucks to their own zany contraptions – into situations that would leave others shaking in a pool of sweat . . . yet they meet head on as irresistible challenges.

High Risk.  High Octane.  And No Safety Nets Allowed.

'The Avengers' Takes Highest Opening Weekend Ever

If you were not at your local theater this weekend, we aren't sure what you were doing. 'Avengers' starring Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, and many, many more, opened on May 4th with a bang!

Hopes were high for Marvel's 'The Avengers', and high is what they got! Although the movie fell short of the opening day record behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2, which grossed $91 million opening day, The Avengers still hit $80.5 million. After that, it soared to the top of the box office with a record breaking $207.4 million for opening weekend. This not only broke the record, it shattered it! Previously holding the best opening weekend spot was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2 with $169.2 million. It also grossed an additional $441.5 million in foreign release.

The Avengers also took recognition for being the fastest movie ever to reach $100, $150, and $200 million, while also stealing away new high records for Saturday and Sunday, with $69.7 million and $50.1 million.

The Avengers was the perfect mix of serious moments, action sequences, and light hearted comedic moments! The movie is expected to pass the $400 million mark and possibly even reach the $500 million mark before exiting theaters.

Make sure to swing out to your local theater and check it out, even if you are not a huge comic fan, this movie has something for everyone!

INTERVIEW: Alexander Ludwig Talks The Hunger Games

Alexander Ludwig, who plays the slightly psychotic,  power hungry, and drop dead gorgeous Cato in the blockbuster movie The Hunger Games, did a virtual sit down with Artists On Demand to talk about his role, his music, and how he feels about the fandom that has grown with this movie.

The Hunger Games was released a few weeks ago. What has the fans reactions been like?

The reaction has been incredible. The entire cast feels honoured to have such loyal, dedicated fans.

The movie came in at #4 best opening weekends just behind The Dark Knight, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. It even beat out New Moon. How does it feel to be a part of something so big?

We are all really proud of the reaction to this movie, and we feel genuinely moved by the positive results. We never gave this any thought when we were filming in North Carolina – we were just focussed on giving our best performance - so in all honesty, the box office success has come as a huge surprise to all of us.

What was the feeling like when you heard you were cast as Cato? Had you read the books and understood the importance of your character in this first movie?

I was ecstatic when Gary offered me the part of Cato. I had never played a villain before and I welcomed the opportunity to get inside the head of someone so twisted. I had read the books and I realized that Cato played a key role throughout the movie and especially in the climax of the final scene.

Did you have to undergo any special physical training for The Hunger Games?

I trained extensively for this role, bulking up by nearly 30-40 pounds. We worked with specially trained navy seals who transformed us into fighting form.

Your character was quite an important part in this first movie. Cato was the guy to beat. How much preparation did you do in order to build up this role and kind of make him your own?

I spent a lot of time talking to Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins about their vision for Cato. I wanted to honour the story while still making him my own creation. In the end, Cato became a melting pot of all of our ideas and concepts. I was really happy that I was given the opportunity to show Cato’s development, character arch and journey.

The final scene with Cato was a bit emotional in our opinion. It was as if he finally realized that his district thought he was no good for anything but this battle and he didn’t appear to be ok with that. What was it like filming that scene?

The final scene was awesome to film. I wanted to become lost in Cato’s dementia, and to feel his moment of realization – that he was merely a pawn in a psychotic game.

Were you able to get any souvenirs from the set or were they pretty strict on that?

I have the best memories of one of the most inspiring summers of my life – that is my souvenir.

You recently attended the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, if we are correct? What was that like being surrounded by some of the biggest fans? The atmosphere is intense!

The fans are fantastic and I feel truly honoured when they support me. The KC awards were a lot of fun and it was great to see some of my Hunger Games cast mates. I miss everyone so much.

Switching gears real quick, your first single ‘Liv it Up (Teenage Wasteland)’ has debuted on iTunes. Is it available worldwide and are you looking to release an album any time soon?

Yes, Liv it Up is available worldwide and is currently being played on Italian Radio. I do hope to release an album in the future.

Any chances of a music video for this single?

I want to make a music video – definitely - just haven’t had time. Hopefully I can complete that this summer.

Do you have any new projects coming up or any public appearances that you want fans to know about?

I am meeting tons of producers and directors right now, and I am searching for my next project. I will keep you posted.

Thank you so much for your time and we’ll be keeping an eye on your career! Good luck!

Thank you so much. It was great talkin to you…

peace.
