Kathy Bates Undergoes a Double Mastectomy
She battled an won against ovarian cancer nine years ago; however, Kathy Bates was diagnosed with breast cancer several weeks ago.
"After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy," the Academy Award-winning actress reveals. "Luckily, I don't have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception."
Bates, who won a Best Actress Oscar in 1991 for Misery, remains upbeat is now looking ahead to the future.
"My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time," the 64 year old says. "I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do."
One of the exciting things on her calendar is the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 23. Bates is nominated for outstanding actress in a drama for (Harry's Law) and outstanding guest actress in a comedy for (Two and a Half Men).
