Digital Domain made headlines last year when they created a hologram for Tupac Shakur that "entertained" at a music festival. However, Digital Tupac couldn't save the company and they filed bankruptcy.
They were primarily hired to do contract animation for for other companies, so their income had typically been a source of strain and doubt for investors.
The company had plans to make it's own movies based on it's digital effects and animations. They partnered with Lionsgate to produce a film based on the popular sci-fi, fantasy novels "Ender's Game". That movie scheduled to release in November 2013 and is in post-production. A spokesman for Lionsgate says, "We are confident the movie will release as planned."
Would you like to see a hologram of a deceased entertainer perform? I am on the fence about it.
