Before the English rock band The Beatles peformed at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California in August 31st, 1965, they had a contract made and signed by the group's manager, Brian Epstein.
The contract revealed that the Fab Four refused to play before a segregated audience. This said contract was put up for auction held on Tuesday in Los Angeles and was sold for $23,033 (to undisclosed buyer); more than four times its pre-auction estimated price.
Aside from the desegregation requierement by the band, they requested 150 uniformed police officers for protection and a special platform in the stage for the band's drummer, Ringo Starr.
The Beatles first toured the United States in 1964 when they also required desegration during their concert at the Gator Bown in Jacksonville, Florida.
