Alexander Sokurov’s 'Faust' at the Venice Film Festival

Alexander Sokurov’s Faust won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Faust is Sokurov'c "version of the German legend in which a man who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for knowledge." It is the final installment in the Russian filmmaker's "four-part version of Goethe's classic tragedy."

Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aranofsky also chairman of the jury, presented Sokuruv the award his latest film won at the ceremony closing on Saturday.

Faust screens at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this week.

Faust stars Johannes Zeiler, Anton Adasinskiy, Isolda Dychauk, and Hanna Schygulla.
