MTV VMA rundown part 1

In true (not quite a Lady) Gaga form, (s)he managed to get everyone talking with an opening number not quite like any other. It's quite well known that Gaga likes cross dressing and has previously done photoshoots as her male alter-ego Joe Calderone. No fancy dress, no meat outfits, no cocoons, just a white tee, black slacks and a little painted on stubble.

It got everyone talking, but not quite as much as Beyonce's pregnancy announcement. She was positively glowing in a great orange gown, showing off her bump to the press on the red carpet, before taking the stage to perform 'Love on Top'

Given the recent passing of troubled singer Amy Winehouse, there was a rather upbeat and touching tribute given in her honor. Russell Brand and Tony Bennett said a few words and Bruno Mars knocked out a great version of 'Valerie' under a large portrait of the singer with her iconic eyeliner and red lipstick.
Tony Bennett presented behind the scenes footage of himself recording a duet with Winehouse, which will be released as a single and the profits will go to charity.

Lady Gaga to appear in "The Simpsons"

"Lisa Goes Gaga."

That is the title of one of the new episodes of The Simpsons and yes, you are right! Lady Gaga will be appearing in the long-time running TV series.

Matt Groening, Simpson's creator said: "Since the very beginning, I've always wanted to have on the most iconic personalities of our time, and she's it."

Lady Gaga will be playing as herself who visited Springfield after finding out that a lot of its residents have very low self-esteem so she tries to cheer them up, including Lisa, through a song.

Lady Gaga who recently recorded her voice-over for the episode stated that she found the recording, "a little nerve-wracking."

"I make music, but I don't do voice-overs every day of the week, and their characters are so awesomely convincing and sincere and wild and funny, I had to remind myself constantly of the sincerity of the humor. "That's what I was trying to focus on, not putting on a character too much and really being as sincere as I could with the lines," the artist added.

The highlight of the episode will not only be Lady Gaga's appearance but the kiss she shares with Marge, Homer's wife.

Lady Gaga who is said she's very excited for the role also stated, "I would say this is one of the coolest things I've ever done. My dad's probably going to do 80 backflips when the episode comes out."

"Lisa Goes Gaga" airs next spring.

Colombiana: Bad? or Badass?

Alright, let's face it, a lot of action films these days are all about special effects, fast cars and no plot. However, Colombiana is a wonderful portrayal of a strong hispanic woman kicking ass and getting exactly what she wants: vengeance. There have been some differences in opinion released lately from many sources regarding the film quality of Colombiana starring Zoe Saldana and with the film's opening weekend approaching, I thought our readers should hear from a non-film critic what the movie is really like.

I had the privilege of attending a red carpet premiere in Miami, FL this past week where Zoe herself introduced the film and encouraged us to get the word out whether we enjoyed the movie or not. She's a strong believer in women being protrayed as "ballsy". Now, here's the bottom line, it's no Oscar contender; however, it was rather entertaining in the sense that it was action packed and actually kept me on the edge of my seat. There were a few things that did catch me off guard. For example, the poor acting of the supposed-to-be-Hispanic actors. As much as I loved his character in this film, Cliff Curtis' performance was cut short only because his Hispanic accent was so terrible and you could tell he was clearly not Hispanic at all. I think there are plenty of Hispanic actors that could've done the character more justice.

There was also a typo (only one that I saw) in the subtitles. Now, I'm not one for perfection, BUT, this is a feature film being released nation wide, the least they can do is proof read for grammatical errors before sending it out to theaters. These were the main things that probably irritated me the most. Overall, I put these pesky things behind me because the motion picture actually piqued my interest and was somwhat inspirational. It's rare to come across a film with a, dare I say it, BAD ASS main character who also happens to be a female. It's like Hollywood can't handle it, so they're scared to put it out there. The only other film that comes to mind is J.Lo's Enough released in 2002. And how could I forget the biggest surprise of all? It wouldn't be fair to write about this film and not mention the young, talented actress who portrays a young version of Zoe's character. Her name is Amandla Stenberg, and I am almost 100% certain that we'll be seeing great things from her in the future; some may even say she stole the movie.

The movie is easy to follow, not hard on the eyes (Zoe is stunning along with her co-star Michael Vartan) and overall a fun cinematic adventure, but you can be the judge of that and let me know what you think.

Check out the trailer and make sure to catch it in theaters starting this weekend August 26th, 2011.

In the video, Carrey went on to say, "Emma, I think you're all the way beautiful. Not just pretty, but smart and kind-hearted. And if I were a lot younger, I would marry you," Carrey tells her. "And every day, for the rest of your life, you would thank God that I was the appropriate age for you," the actor continues. "But I'm not. I'm 49. I have lines on my face, sometimes a little gray in my beard, and it takes me a little bit longer to pee than it used to," Carrey added.

Tarsem Singh's "Immortals"

Indian director Tarsem Singh, a visionary genius, has a film coming up titled Immortals.

With the film 300's producer behind this project, I dare say one can expect a lot more from this film. Singh is known for his rich visuals and vibrant storytelling as we can see in his previous masterpieces The Fall and The Cell.

Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king's hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man's conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion...until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes... (IMDb)

Singh is also on a much awaited project, an Untitled Snow White Project starring Sean Bean, Julia Roberts, Lilly Collins, Armie Hammer, and Nathan Lane. The film's release date is March 16th, 2012.

Immortals comes out to theaters in the United States on November 11th, 2011. The film stars Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Kellan Lutz, Freida Pinto, and Mickey Rourke with Vlas Parlapanides and Charley Parlapanides on screenplay.

Ryan Kwanten's 'Griff the Invisible' Movie Review

Ryan Kwanten has swooned girls for the past few years by playing the loveable Jason Stackhouse on True Blood. His role on ‘superhero-esque’ movie Griff the Invisible shows him in quite a different light. Griff, who is your average Joe in the office by day, suits up in his rubber super suit at night and goes looking for crime to bring to a screeching halt.

Griff’s family think he’s crazy, including brother Tim, who wishes that Griff would just give up his childlike fantasies and live a normal adult life. Tim’s completely opposite, slightly neurotic, new girlfriend seems to have an inner bond with Griff. The movie tells the story of family differences, security, and love, with comedy thrown into the mix.

Although we wouldn’t put it up next for an Oscar, Griff the Invisible allows the viewer to escape from their own reality and take a run on the wild side, while enjoying some laughs along the way. We would gladly add Griff the Invisible to our list of good indie films to pick up for a movie night with friends. The guys will like the comedy and action, while the girls will eat up the romance and drama. An all around good movie for the entire family.

Co-Creator of Artists On Demand, Nikki Moore, Interview

What made you and Vicky decide to start Artists On Demand?

Vicky and I were having a normal conversation one day, a few years ago and she happened to mention that we should start an online radio show. We were heavily involved with 100 Monkeys and their fan club at the time, along with Spencer Bell Legacy so having our own radio show where we could promote these two bands was ideal.

Not to mention, we both love Indie music and a few years ago the industry was right on the cusp of letting these bands on mainstream radio. It wasn’t happening fast enough for us so we created Artists On Demand. It was a place where our friends and us could talk about the music we liked and others could join in.

What are your biggest passions in life?

I have quite a few passions in life, music being the biggest. I’ve spent years around musicians, concerts etc…I’ve surrounded myself with people who play music independently and people who love music just as much as I do. I really want to represent the little guy, the artists and bands who can’t catch a break. I feel like I’ve overcome some of these issues in my personal life so why not pay it forward?

Artists On Demand has grown quite a bit over the last couple years. How does it make you feel to see your listenership and popularity growing?

Honestly, the whole thing makes me emotional. It’s so rewarding to see this seed of an idea grow into such an amazing flower, you know? It’s perplexing to me when people talk about AOD from a fan’s perspective because in my mind it’s still the little show that could…that little radio show run by friends who did one show a week. I’m very honored to be associated with such an amazing group of ladies and the show.

Where do you hope to see Artists On Demand go over the next couple years?

I would love to see us go viral. Maybe a show on XM/Sirius radio or a platform where we can reach even more people than we do now! It would be amazing to travel, get one on one interviews from backstage at various shows. The possibilities are endless but mostly, I’d love to see us all succeed at whatever life happens to throw at us.

What is the most shocking thing to date that has happened to you being part of Artists On Demand?

The most shocking thing? That will always be interviewing Bryan White. He is someone I adore and he has been there for me indirectly through his music for over eleven years. I was blown away by his humbleness, the same level of humbleness I viewed in him when I was sixteen and meeting him for the first time.

What five musical guests would you recommend everyone listen to?

I recommend you listen to them all. I will give you my top two… Ian Axel and Bryan White.

What are your tips for musicians and artists that want to submit to be on Artists On Demand?

Be persistent, send us your stuff and make it happen! That’s how we’ve gotten this far so the formula works. Oh and contact Kristin, the Program Manager Queen.

Anything you can spill on what is to come in the near future on Artists On Demand?

No details BUT, there are some very big things in our future. Like any good things in life, it takes time, patience and money. You haven’t seen the last of AOD and the powerhouse team of ladies who run the show. We’re here to stay!
