Fans and former bandmates honor Morrison on his 40th death anniversary

Fans and former Doors bandmates pay tribute to the late Jim Morrison's 40th death anniversay in Paris on Sunday.

Fans showed up at Morrison's gravesite at Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris, wearing shirts that featured the late artist's image. Some fans wore shirts with Morrison's face and the words "40th anniversary" on them. Some fans left flowers at his grave over the weekend.

Associated Press reported that Ray Manzarek (keyboardist) and Robby Krieger (guitarist) lit candles at Morrison's grave.

Morrison who was also known for his nickname as "lizard king" died on the 2nd of July, 1971 due to heart failure in his tub in Paris.

The Doors had hits throughout their career including Light My Fire, People Are Strange, and Break on Through (To the Other Side). A film titled The Doors about Morrison was made in 1991; Morrison was portrayed by American Actor Val Kilmer.
