Anonymous Review

Last week, I was lucky enough to go to an exclusive VIP pre-screening of Anonymous. Now, I won't give too much away-- the trailer alone leaves us with plenty of questions that need to be answered. But this is a film that is jam packed with an all-star cast who, quite literally, left me completely in awe with their talent and an amazing story line to keep anyone interested from beginning to end. The movie itself is, in fact, the ultimate portrayal of deception and vengeance, with so many plot twists, it was hard to keep up. To me, it may be one of the best movies of the year and if it doesn't get any award nominations, let's say I'll be more than just disappointed. There isn't one moment where you're not at the edge of your seat or wondering what will happen next. One thing that makes a movie for me that I love is tragedy (drama is nice too), and there's plenty of that in this one.

Besides the plot being completely earth-shattering, the cast was just astonishing. It's not the first time an incredible cast has been put together for a complex story. The performances of the actors in this motion picture were more than extraordinary. I will admit that I was not exactly surprised by Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave or David Thewlis' performances... These are actors who have won numerous awards and there's no way I will ever be surprised by their acting chops. The surprise did come from none other than Jamie Campbell Bower, Rafe Spall, Xavier Samuel and Sebastian Armesto whom basically owned a lot more screen time than they've probably been given in the past. It's refreshing to see Jamie and Xavier in such different roles from what they've played before and they deliver a truly excellent depiction of their characters. They're really going to be big stars and I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us. Rafe Spall makes an ideal William Shakespeare down to the womanizing and theatrical gestures (also, an admirable drunk). Then, finally, there's Sebastian. So much talent and he plays his role that is so heart-wrenching, it fills you with emotions you didn't even know you had in you.

There are so many adjectives in the English language that come to mind to describe this film. Incredible. Amazing. Surprising. Challenging. Smart. Witty... the list goes on and on. It's the ideal movie for any and every English, Literature, Poetry, Film and Theatre major. Or just anyone who genuinely enjoys cinematic adventures. There aren't many films that challenge and entertain us all at once. You unquestionably want to check this movie out when it's released on October 28th, 2011. You will not be disappointed.

Warrior Review

If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that there are a plethora of fighting movies out there. Whether they're based on boxing, wrestling or even martial arts, they all involve some ass kicking. Many, if not most, have even become classic, award-winning films such as The Wrestler, Rocky and The Fighter. One movie I'm sure we'll be adding to the award-winning category is Warrior starring Tom Hardy, Nick Nolte and Joel Edgerton. Each actor delivered an extraordinary performance making you feel as if you were part of their family experiencing the same hardships. I don't want to give too much away. Seeing that the movie has been out for almost a week, I will tell you that it has grossed about $5.24 million and won't be stopping anytime soon. It's also 3rd in the box office right under Contagion and The Help.

One of the best things about the movie, among others, comes when you start questioning which brother to root for. For most fighting movies, you'll catch yourself silently hoping for a specific character's victory and most of the time, it'll be the main character. But what do you do when the movie has two important characters, each with their own different motivation? I will say the actors do such an incredible job, I wouldn't be surprised if the film got a few Academy Award nominations. Nonetheless, some people have been raving about the movie saying that it's the best movie of the year and I will have to respectfully disagree. It is absolutely in the top 10, maybe even top 5, but there are some parts that you just feel are somewhat dragging on with no purpose but to waste film reel. In the end though, it's a fighting movie that isn't necessarily about fighting; there are so many other factors that contribute to the story line of the movie. Its's not just about a bunch of guys getting into the ring and knocking each other's teeth out.

My suggestion is to go see the film and make your own opinion about it, but its definitely a movie you don't want to miss or wait until it's released on DVD. You can take your family to see it (no kids younger than age 11) or even make it a date night and see it with your significant other. It is quite enjoyable and entertaining.

Marty McFly shoes by Nike

Nike is going back to the future, Associated Press reported after Nike MAG made an announcement that they've created a limited-edition shoes based on Marty McFly's kicks (played by Michael J. Fox) in the 1989 film Back to The Future.

Michael J. Fox appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman on Thursday night where he talked more about the Nike Mags. The shoes were repleted with tri-color LED lights, also with electroluminescent Nike logo. There's a down-fall to it all though, they don't come with auto-lace... But still, they look pretty awesome! There will be 1,500 of these Nike Mags that will be for sale on eBay with all the proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The first Nike MAG pair was auctioned off for $37, 000.

Q & A with Kirsten Prout from ABC Family's 'The Lying Game'

We recently got to ask Kirsten Prout, who you may know from her roles in Kyle XY, Twilight: Eclipse, or Elektra, about her most recent role on ABC Family's new hit TV drama "The Lying Game" where she plays Char, one of Sutton's bff's. We got the inside scoop on fashion, adapting to living in Austin, the drama to come, and why fans will adore her character. Check it out and tune in on Monday's at 9 pm EST to ABC Family to see 'The Lying Game'.

ABC Family has been on a roll with their shows becoming extremely popular. How did it feel when you heard that you had been cast as Char in 'The Lying Game'?

I'd already experienced working with the wonderful folks at ABC Family, so naturally, I was thrilled to know we'd all be reunited. Loving our show and loving the network brings a great energy to the set.

How have you adjusted to living in Austin, where the show is filmed?

I have a great, eclectic, country-style home in a beautiful area where my dog can run around for hours. I've been fortunate enough to see some great live music, eat some amazing food, and really take in the city. The people here are so warm, welcoming, and progressive. I've felt so lucky that the show relocated here.

Who is Char…why will viewers relate to her?

Who hasn't tried to make light of things that stress them out? What girl hasn't gone on a shopping trip with their girlfriends after a tough week? Char may be a little wrapped up in the popularity contest of high school, but at the end of the day she's a caring person who loves her friends. I think the audience will grow to appreciate her fast-talking, bossy little loyal self.

Had you read the books before auditioning?

No, I went into the audition with my own idea of Char.

Is working on The Lying Games very different from the other well-known shows and movies you have been in (Kyle XY, Twilight:Eclipse, Elektra)?

Every show is different, and you learn something new on every set. That's the great part of being an actor, some staple things stay the same, but your environment is always changing.

Fashion seems to be a big part of the show as well. Do you get to bring any of your own fashion sense into your character?

Char is quite a bit more dressed up than I usually am, but Mimi [the costume designer] and I have a lot of fun collaborating and thinking up Char's wardrobe.

How is the environment on set? Does everyone get along and mesh well together?

Absolutely. Austin's crew is unbelievably professional and hardworking, and our cast is very down to earth and easygoing.

What should the fans expect from Season 1 of The Lying Game?

Every episode will get more intense, you'll be totally hooked by mid season, and you should expect to be totally surprised at every turn!

Why do you think this show is going to be a hit?

I sincerely think that our show has a great balance of mystery, drama, and comedy. Anyone can relate to the central theme of appreciating the life you have, because there's always someone who would give anything to take your place. Sutton sees her life as a typical teenage struggle, But when Emma steps into her place, she feels like Cinderella. It's all a matter of perspective.

If you love what you hear, make sure to tune in to 'The Lying Game' on ABC Family every Monday at 9 pm EST and keep up with Kirsten by following her on twitter @kcprout.
