Burton and Brolin to Team-up for "Hunchback"
There is a talk of Tim Burton- director of dark, quirky-themed movies like "Beetlejuice" and "Edward Scissorhands"- and Josh Brolin, star of "No Country for Old Men", teaming up to bring back the story of Quasimodo ("The Hunchback of Notre Dame") to the cinema. Brolin will be leading the team as the producer and star of the project while "Sherlock Holmes" sequel writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney are to pen the screenplay. Burton, meanwhile, is in the pre-production state with Warner Bros. in realizing "Dark Shadows", Burton's another collaboration with actor Johnny Depp. It was reported that Burton's decision to finalized the deal to work with Brolin on the "Hunchback" project will depend on the outcome of the screenplay.
The 1831 Victor Hugo masterpiece had been translated into films several times, "Esmeralda" being the first in 1905 and the last major adaptations were Walt Disney's animations in 1996- "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and its sequel, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame II."
