One on One With "The Secret Life Of Jonathan Sky"'s Lexi Sakowitz

One of the projects Artistic Analogies Film Co. has recently embarked on is Kevin M. Slee's The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky.

It is a film "about a man, Mr. Jonathan Sky (Amir Malaklou), who has been obsessing over the rejection he felt in high school when the girl of his dreams, Natalie Jacobson (Lexi Sakowitz), lied to him about going to the prom together. Four years later, Jonathan has thought of nothing else, and decides he wants to see Natalie one last time. The story is about those final moments and about how such immense hurt and rejection can change someone – forever." (Slee)

In his previous interview with Artists On Demand, Slee discussed how the film was developed and the challenge of casting the male lead role. He also gave us an insight on what to expect from the movie by talking about the actors who gave life to the film's characters - Natalie and Jonathan - Lexi Sakowitz and Amir Malaklou, both of whom Slee was thrilled to work with.

Slee described Lexi Sakowitz as a "wonderfully talented actor" who is "very diverse, honest, and specific."

This time, Artists On Demand is presenting you an interview with Lexi Sakowitz who played Natalie Jacobson in The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky.

AOD: You recently collaborated with Kevin M. Slee in his creation The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky. Can you tell us about your part in this new film?

Lexi: 'Natalie' is a helpful character who feels empathy for Jonathan after seeing him stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. She decides to pull over and offer her assistance, leaving her daughter Emily to wait in the car. After fixing the car, and what Natalie seems to believe to be harmless flirting for a married woman, Jonathan asks Natalie to drive down the road to make sure the car doesn't break down again. Where it is inevitably revealed to Natalie that the man sitting next to her is Jonathan Sky, the boy she stood up at prom in high school. It seems that her childish decisions have come back to haunt her with a vengeance and this time Jonathan isn't taking "no" for an answer.

AOD: Can you tell us some of the projects you've done in the past?

Lexi: Some of my favorite projects that I've been privileged to be involved in recently are "Election Day" with writer-director Zach Wechter and producer Kevin Slee. I played the role of 'Leah Reitman'. She was a schemer manipulating every student around her in order to obtain her dream of class president. It was an amazing film to be a part of and the cast and crew really became such a family afterwards due to the process itself being so incredibly fun to work on.

Another film I highly enjoyed working on in the past was "Reality Check". I played 'Dana'. It was a fun comedy short about a guy, Jason, who cheats on his girlfriend, Dana, while on a reality show and the lengths he'll go to hide it from her. It was a good chance to work a different acting muscle I don't usually get to work on. The pacing of a comedy is completely different than that of a drama. I was able to improv a lot onset just to see how it can change the dynamic of the scene, which was a lot of fun.

AOD: What makes your character in The Secret Life... different from other characters you've portrayed in the past?

Lexi: In Jonathan Sky 'Natalie' is different because she, unlike any character I have ever played, gets fully over powered and dominated physically and mentally by a male figure weakening her completely.

AOD: Are there any challenges you've come across while doing this project?

Lexi: Doing this project I found that it was very emotionally demanding as well as physically demanding. To fully get into the mentality of what Natalie was going through during a few of the scenes, Amir Malaklou, who played Jonathan Sky, and I worked with stunt coordinator Davy Thompson to practice fighting and hitting. We wanted to make this specific scene, when Natalie gets raped, was very honest and therefore we concentrated a lot on the genuine struggle. I hope to have achieved that in the film. I definitely had bruises, sore muscles, and scratches after a long day of shooting so I hope it was worth it!

AOD: Do you have any interesting story you can share with us that happened during filming?

Lexi: Well, we happened to have our location next to a bee-keeping farm. I was completely unaware of this, until towards the end of the first and second day I start seeing more and more bees swarming around crafty and makeup. By day three I think we had two bee stings and Amir, who is deathly allergic to bees, had to eat his lunch in the car to avoid them.

AOD: How was it working with producer-director Kevin Slee?

Lexi: Kevin Slee is a director who is always concerned with how his actor is doing, and working with a director like that is a dream. He is constantly checking in to let his actor know what works and what doesn't, and if it doesn't we collaborate together to find an answer. Throughout the entire process from rehearsal to shooting he was able to give me freedom while at the same time guiding me towards a structured and highly specific performance.

AOD: Do you have any upcoming projects?

Lexi: I have a few, but I am unable to speak about them in press. I hope to be able to soon!

AOD: What can people look forward to from The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky?

Lexi: I think people can look forward to seeing a great film. I hope everyone enjoys the hard work the cast and crew put into making it. I am definitely proud of the work we all put forth.

Brazilian Forest Inspiration for "Avatar" Sequels

Canadian director and "Avatar" creator, James Cameron attended the 2nd International Forum on Sustainability in Manaus, Brazil.

The forum debated "Economic, Environmental and Social Sustainability of the Amazon and the Planet" and aimed "to publicize successful sustainable-development practices and mechanisms in the Amazon, to demonstrate the rain forest's economic and environmental value and to show how the forest impacts the region and the world."

And while on the topic, Cameron told AFP that he is considering bringing in the Avatar sequels' cast to the Brazilian rain forest. Cameron stated that "Avatar is a film about the rain forest and its indigenous people." And bringing in his actors to get in touch and be inspired by the forest and its indigenous tribes "can better tell this [the Avatar] story."

Cameron also stated that "the actors could learn about the natives and what real life in the jungle is like."

According to Globo newspaper, Cameron was baptized by a member of the caiapo tribe, chief Raoni, who gave Cameron the name "Krapremp-ti" (man who is s friend of the jungle.) It was reported that the director said he would use that name in his Avatar sequel. He also stated, "If I had met the caiapos before making Avatar, I would certainly have made a better film."

The 2nd International Forum on Sustainability was attended by sustainability specialists, business, political and environmental leaders from Brazil and around the world.

Former US President Bill Clinton, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson joined Cameron as speakers at the forum.

Jenelle Evans, one of the stars of Teen Mom 2, has been arrested a while back for a fight she got into that was caught on camera. If that wasn't bad enough, it turns out that not only did she get some more fame off of the fight, but she also made a bit of money.

Reports are saying that Jenelle got an idea from a friend that selling the video would make a pretty penny. Jenelle then contacted someone at a known photo agency and sold the video for $5000. The only touchy part was is that now that the money is in hand, Jenelle wanted a larger cut because according to her "You wouldn't get any money if I wasn't famous!"

What is next for the young Teen Mom? Let's hope she starts to straighten her life out.

Radcliffe Sings on Key With Positive Reviews on "How To Succeed..."

Reviews are out and it seems that Daniel Radcliffe's newest Broadway show is another success!

Positive and warm reviews were posted on Monday for Radcliffe's Broadway musical debut How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The 21-year old British actor portrayed J Pierrepont Finch, "the fresh-faced but ambitious" window washer who applied for a job at the World Wide Wicket Company.

Reuters reported that The New York Times stated "while Mr. Radcliffe is clearly not to the musical manner born, I would give him, oh, a 6 out of 10" who "hits his choreographic marks, speaks his lines quickly and distinctly (with a convincing American accent) and often sings on key."

"Radcliffe doesn't quite pop as a musical theatre performer, the 'Harry Potter' star does a capable job of singing and dancing in the revival," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Radcliffe first embarked on Broadway when he portrayed Alan Strang in the play Equus at Broadhurst Theater in midtown Manhattan in 2008.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying opened on March 27th and is being shown at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Eyecon: Vampire Diaries Takes Over Atlanta

It is putting it mildly when we say that vampires took over Atlanta this past weekend. The Westin was host to the first ever Vampire Diaries convention held by Eyecon, which is based out of Orlando, FL. Set to appear at this event was Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven McQueen, Michael Trevino, and Robert Pralgo. The crowds started pouring in on Thursday, but the event didn’t kick off until Friday at 4 pm when registration opened. Piles upon piles of envelopes holding passes, tickets to the banquet, the ball, the cocktail party, and chances to be up close and personal with your favorite celebrities. When registration kicked off, you could already tell that this event was going to blow all others out of the water. People were bouncing up and down in anticipation of what was to come.

Friday evening turned out to be a fairly relaxing evening of drinks by the pool, mingling with fellow fans, and if you stayed up late, you would find members of the band ‘The Nova Echo’ roaming the halls and lobby early into the morning. By 9 am Saturday, you could hear the hum of voices through your hotel room door. Registration was opening and fans were very ready for the events to get underway.

Fans lined up at 10:30 am on Saturday to begin filtering in for photo ops with their favorite celebrities. Rob Pralgo, Paul Wesley, Michael Trevino, and Steven McQueen were all on hand to let fans snuggle up close to their sides for a flash to lock in that memory forever. So many people were waiting for this chance, that they had to take row by row in order to keep the hallways clear for fans mingling for merchandise at the vendor tables or just enjoying the atmosphere. Rob Pralgo and Paul Wesley started out the day with Q & A sessions that filled the house. Paul got a scream when a fan asked what his favorite scene to film was and he said it was when he and Nina first ‘did the deed’ and he struggled with keeping his vampire ways locked up.

After the Q & A’s Rob Pralgo decided to grace the fans with his presence and set up a table where fans could come over and get free… yes you heard correctly, free autographs from him. He even provided the head shots to sign along with posters from his new movie Bloodties. He was the only celebrity to roam the halls a majority of the convention. Fans lined up to take advantage of the chance to talk to him, ask him more questions, get stuff signed, and he even posed for pictures with them. We even witnessed him hugging some fans that agreed to donate blood if they could get a hug! Way to be there for a good cause.

The evening festivities kicked off with a banquet with the stars. Good food and company as the celebrities got to take group shots with everyone at the banquet and even chatted with some of the fans. Once the banquet was over, everyone started getting dolled up for the best part of the evening; the concert and the ball that followed. The concert this time was Eyecon favorite, The Nova Echo who kicked it off with a bang as they sang some of their fan favorites, Satellite A.I., Arrival, Titan, and even did a cover of the popular Cee Lo Green song “Fuck You”. The room was packed and even the celebrity guests made an appearance. Steven McQueen, Michael Trevino, and Robert Pralgo were among the celebrities standing off to the side watching the show. The fans got an even bigger surprise when Candice Accola (Caroline) and Matt Davis (Alaric) made an appearance for the concert. Camera flashes were going off like crazy as the fans pressed in closer. When The Nova Echo finished up their show with “Satellite A.I.” it was time for Jessarae to take the stage. Little brother to Vampire Diaries star Steven McQueen, the screams could be heard down in the lobby of the hotel. Jessarae performed for a good 45 minutes playing his guitar with a friend playing drums as back up. The fans couldn’t get enough and I am sure they want him to come back for more. Once the concerts ended, it was time to file downstairs to the ball.

Fans put on their dresses, their face masks (as it was a masquerade ball) and entered into a dimly lit room with balloons, lights, and their very favorite MC, Just Josh (also an AOD staff member) dancing on a table. Music from Paramour, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, and T.I. filled the room and the celebrities mingled among the fans for a bit too.

Sunday woke up with excitement sweeping over the crowd. The final Salvatore brother, Damon, played by the ever gorgeous Ian Somerhalder was making his appearance. Every time a glimpse of him was seen you knew as flashes on cameras went off, and screams filled the air. Hundreds upon hundreds of fans lined up to have their picture taken with Ian, as well as to get a Salvatore brother photo op with him and Paul Wesley, or even better, a group shot with all of the celebrity guests. Steven McQueen, Michael Trevino, and Robert Pralgo also stepped up as fans wrapped their arms around them for pictures.

Michael Trevino and Steven McQueen joined each other on stage for a Q & A that had fans screaming when Steven showed his abs to the audience. You could hear laughing and screaming as well as see lots of dreamy gazes if you peeked in on this session. The Grand ballroom was packed full as Ian Somerhalder stepped into the room for his Q & A. Every seat in the room was full and fans were lined up along the edge of the room trying to catch a glimpse, a picture, or some video of the brooding brother. The evening dwindled down as the Miss Mystic Falls pageant took place and then the final after party to wrap up the weekend of memories.

All in all the weekend went smoothly, packed with fans, great music, excellent guests, and lots of energy. Eyecon owner and promoter Kenny Smith sure knows how to make the fans happy and looks as though they keep getting better. Make sure to keep an eye on the website, www.eyeconfla.com so you know when the next event is coming. If the tradition remains, we should be looking forward to another annual True Blood convention coming up later in this year. Swing over to FB and leave Eyecon a message letting them know all the fun you had and send your favorite pictures our way to add to our Eyecon collage!

Iconic Hollywood legend, Dame Elizabeth Taylor has passed away at the age of 79.

Whilst she was most famous for being married 7 times (twice to the same man) and for being an outspoken friend of Michael Jackson's, she suffered terrible medical conditions for most of her life, including breaking her back 4 times and having a benign brain tumor removed. This didn't stop her from acting in over 70 movies, having children, a very colourful social life and becoming a championed AIDS spokesperson.

Beginning her professional acting career when she was just 12 years old in 'National Velvet, she was nominated for 5 Academy Awards (winning 2) and was considered a tour de force in her roles in 'Who's afraid of Viriginia Woolfe' & 'Cleopatra' for which she became the first actress to ever receive a $1,000,000 pay cheque. She also had a comical side, playing a character in the Flintstones movie in 1994 and voicing Maggie Simpson's first words in a Simpsons episode in 1992. Check out her full movie listings on IMDB.

Director/Producer Kevin M. Slee Talks About New Project "Jonathan Sky"

Laguna Niguel indie director Kevin M. Slee is a very productive man.

Slee, in behalf of film production company Artistic Analogies Film Co. (which Slee co-founded) has been busy promoting Matthew Anderson's "Franky, Frankly" a short film starring Mikandrew Perdaris, Bella Dayne and Allan Hyde. Slee recently wrapped up filming his new short "The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky" and yours truly was fortunate enough to caught up with this hardworking writer/director/producer.

One-on-one with Kevin M. Slee:

"The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky" is the newest project of Artistic Analogies Film Co. What is it about?
"The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky" is about a man, Mr. The story is about those final moments and about how such immense hurt and rejection can change someone – forever.

You wrote the screenplay and you will be directing it. Who else is going to be part of this film?
Yes, I wrote the script a while back and decided I would like to direct it as my next film to come from Artistic Analogies Film Co. We had an amazing crew and cast involved, including many people from past Artistic Analogies productions. I have wonderful producers, all of whom worked very hard to get this film made. We have Courtney Renee, David Johnson, and James Cox (My Friend Johnny Keller). My Sound Designer is Eric Hoehn (Election Day, The King of the Jews) and we are back with Composer John W. Snyder (Grey Matter).

As far as the cast goes, I was very lucky to secure Lexi Sakowitz as “Natalie Jacobson” early on in the process. Lexi is a wonderfully talented actor, very diverse, honest, and specific. She had to put up with a lot in both rehearsals and during production, emotionally and physically, and I couldn’t have done it with anyone else. I was thrilled to have her for The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky and the fact that I had worked with her as a producer on Artistic Analogies Film Co.’s Election Day (Dir. Zach Wechter) made it even better. I very much look forward to seeing the finished product, and hope to work with her again very soon in whatever capacity I can. I really do expect to see great things from her in the future.

“Jonathan Sky” was much harder to cast. In fact, at a few different times during the pre-production and casting stages I thought I had my “Jonathan”, but then decided that it wasn’t quite right… Luckily, when meeting with Lexi one afternoon she suggested Amir Malaklou and I called him right away. He and Lexi read for me and I was sold – had to have him. Amir is a very intense and intuitive actor, always very specific but always giving something new and exciting. It was a thrill to work with him, and I hope he will come back to Artistic Analogies Film Co. in the future.

How far along in the production is "The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky"?
We wrapped production this past Sunday and are now into the post-production stages. Our Editor, Andrew Hellesen, now has all the footage and we will begin a 1st cut as well as the early scoring stages.

Can you tell us something that sets "The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky" apart from the previous films Artistic Analogies Film Co. has produced and released?
While The Secret Life of Jonathan Sky may be similar to some Artistic Analogies Film Co. productions, I think the issue presented makes it unique. We took an emotion and an event that everyone can relate to in one capacity or another and applied it to a very specific genre. As far as what sets it apart, I am not sure. My goal is to make whatever films I am passionate about and driven to produce or direct so considering differences with past productions doesn’t factor in too much…

One similarity the past Artistic Analogies Film Co.'s productions have is the brilliant music/soundtrack used in each film. Can we expect new compositions for this film as well?
We have John Snyder on board to compose with featured musician Vijay Venkatesh. Snyder has composed many Artistic Analogies Film Co. productions, including Election Day, Franky, Frankly, and Grey Matter (in association with). John is magically diverse in his choices, and always elevates the film in a very delicate way. He never detracts and always finds a way to add just enough. I believe much of this skill comes in his humble, honest, and giving personality. He loves film, music, and working with filmmakers – when you make it about that and not yourself, that’s where it all comes together.

Anything else you would like to add?
I hope you are all able to see the film, and if you would like to keep updates on the production and other Artistic Analogies Film Co. production you can follow us, and the film, on Facebook and Twitter.

**********

Thank you very much to Kevin for this wonderful opportunity and insight on his new film.

Be sure to tune in tonight, 9:00 PST, on BlogTalkRadio to catch Kevin M. Slee live as he talk about the short "Franky, Frankly." Later on, ArtistsOnDemand will have a chance to speak with "Franky, Frankly" writer/director Matthew Anderson and star Mikandrew Perdaris.
